How much homework can we expect in fifth grade?

The kids will have daily math homework (usually 30 problems a night), and nightly reading and journaling.
The students will have a binder in which they keep their independent reading book and a notebook for journaling
when they finish a book. They will keep track of their reading minutes on a reading log that gets turned
in monthly. Each week the kids will have a spelling and geography homework sheet that will need to be turned
in. We also do Current Event presentations in which the kids investigate a news story and present it to the
class. News stories can come from the TV, newspaper, or internet. We emphasize the importance of a good
presentation with frequent eye contact, nice loud speaking voice and a balanced posture. The students
will also have various reading homework and projects through out the year. Each students will have a homework
planner that will be filled out at the end of the school day with all assignments that needs to be signed by a parent.
