Will we have homework?

Yes. There will be classtime available most days to get started and possiby complete
the daily assignments. Some additional work may need to be done at home.

Are there big projects this year?

Yes. We will be studying MN History this year in Social Studies, so new and exciting things happening. We also complete a MN Theme Research Report in the spring. Some students will share their learning through a WAX MUSEUM. We also have our BIZ TOWN Curriculum in the Fall. This is an awesome economic learning experience.

Do we have any field trips?

We start our year with PROJECT WET a Water Festival with all 5th graders from Chisago County. This will take place Friday, September 30. We then travel to BIZ TOWN in October. We also try to schedule additional MN History Field Trips in the Spring.

Will parents HAVE to sign the planner?

Yes. The daily planners are a helpful communication tool for you to review what we
did for the day. I require at least 3 signatures during the week.

Are there consequences for missing work?

You will need to complete the work during recess in studyhall.

Will I have to read this year?

Yes, reading is critical to our learning and necessary skill. We will have daily reading time. We will focus on comprehension, fluency, and reading strategies. Each week you will be required to complete a Reading Log. This will be helpful for next year! The expectations for Trimester 1 are 90 minutes a week.

Are there any fun things or REWARDS?

Yes, we do fun things weekly. Our bodies need the transitions of movement to keep us focused. We play a variety of games which support the curriculum. We also have a combined REWARD time with Mrs. Pitala and Mrs. Baillargeon's class every 2 weeks.

Will parents be informed of student's progress?

Every 2 weeks a PROGRESS REPORT - Homework Update will come home. It will highlight your child's behavior for the 2 weeks. It will also indicate if they have any missing or incomplete assignments. Expect this EVERY 2 weeks. It will be need to be signed and returned to school. It is a helpful communication tool.
