MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR! Have a wonderful break and enjoy spending time with your family and friends! I'll see you on Monday, January 4th. SPELLING PRACTICE AT HOME Students should be spending time each day studying their words for their weekly list. This is not only to prepare for the Friday test, but also to learn the phonetic patterns and structural patterns that words have in common - so that they remember how to spell their words beyond the weekly test! You might have some ways that you help or encourage your child to study their words already, but perhaps some of these ways are getting old. For fresh ideas on spelling practice, please see my DOWNLOADS page. You can see a list of suggested activities for word study and download and print any documents that support these activities. WEBSITES for LEARNING! As you know, I have a page on this site on which I post websites that can be useful for certain projects or beneficial to the students to enhance their learning. If you have found any good sites suited for either of these purposes, please send the link to me and I will add it to my webpage entitled LINKS. Below are listed some curriculum areas for which websites would be useful: -MATH: basic multiplication and division facts, geometry, fractions, multiplying by 2 digit numbers, long division, finding averages, graphing & probability, telling time and finding elapsed time, measurement, decimals (10ths and 100ths) -SOCIAL STUDIES: immigration to the United States, regions of the U.S., information on individual states, states & capitals, Native Americans. -SCIENCE: cells and living things, classification of living things, animals, electricity and magnetism, rocks and minerals, matter, chemical compunds & mixtures. -RELIGION: Beatitudes and Ten Commandments, seasons of the church year (Advent & Lent in particular), Jesus' life, the Sacraments. -LANGUAGE ARTS: fun activities or helpful sites for reading and writing skills, including spelling and grammar. Thanks for sharing! At some point, I will organize these websites by subject area so they are easier to find! Thanks! teresa.gallagher@saintambroseofwoodbury.org (651) 768-3050
