Tips for Surviving Third Grade
This folder should go home every night. Please ask to see it every day. The folder should be returned to school the next day along with any assignments that are due. Corrected papers will typically come home on Fridays.Back to Top
Any homework that is assigned will be posted on my website. Homework is given almost every day. It consists of relevant assignments, such as reviews of class work or concepts to get the students thinking about upcoming lessons. It will be checked for completeness, reviewed in class and/or collected by me. I do not expect any student to work on homework for more than 30 minutes a night. If after thirty minutes your child has not completed all of his/her work, simply sign the homework sheet and return it to school. I will not penalize a student who turns in incomplete work, as long as I have a parent signature on the assignment.Back to Top
Your child will be a better reader the more he or she reads. Decide on a regular reading time for daily reading homework. Your child should read for at least 15 minutes a day. You may partner read with your child if necessary. Other homework assignments should be comleted prior to independent reading, since the students have an opportunity to read and respond to their reading at school. Your child will be required to complete two book reports per quarter starting with the second quarter. More details will come home at a later date.Back to Top
The students are allowed to bring a healthy snack to school to enjoy during the afternoon. I would prefer that no one brings candy or soda for snack time. Juice boxes are okay.Back to Top
We have plenty of recess toys. Keep all toys (lacrosse sticks, footballs, electronic devices, cell phones, etc.) at home. If Extended Day children bring toys for after school, they must be kept in their lockers and out of sight.Back to Top
When it is someone's birthday in the classroom he/she is welcome to bring in a treat of their choice to share. Please refer to the class list to be sure that you have enough treats for everyone. If you need an extra copy of this list just ask. For those students who have a summer birthday, they may choose to celebrate their half birthday. I would like a note sent to school the day before a half birthday will be celebrated.Back to Top
Feel free to let your child keep a water bottle at school. I would prefer that you label your child's water bottle with his/her name.Back to Top
Many of the students have asked if they can bring in a stuffed animal to read with during D.E.A.R time. I've explained that it is okay to bring in one stuffed animal as long as it fits into their backpacks. I also asked the students to leave these stuffed animals in their backpacks until it is independent reading time.Back to Top
What should I do if I need to change how my child will be ariving home?
Please send a note to school with your child if he/she is going home a different way than usual. If plans change in the middle of the day, please contact the office and let them know what your child should do at the end of the day. The office will relay the message to our classroom and your child. This will ensure that both your child and I get the information.Back to Top
