The goal of the Junior Great Books program is to expose children to great pieces of literature and encourage appreciation of the works through active discussion. At St. Ambrose there are two distinct Great Books programs. In 1st grade, all students experience the activity during the regular school day; parent volunteers come with prepared lesson plans and read the story to their assigned group (4 students), discuss it briefly, and guide the children through a related art or acting activity. Students in grades 2 through 5 have the option to sign up for a Great Books group which meets in the morning before school begins. These discussion groups meet once a week for six weeks during Oct./Nov. and again during Feb./Mar. **The fall Great Books session has just ended. If you have not returned your book yet, please turn it in to room 110.
