For the week of Dec. 7-11
RELIGION 8
Tues. 12/8     Continue working on packet of material on hunger.
               Everything is due Friday of this week, 12/11.
Wed. 12/9      Continue working on packet.  Reflection paper also needs
               to be completed.  Everything is due Friday at the latest.
Thurs.12/10    Final work day on packet.  Everything is to be handed in 
               at the beginning of class tomorrow.
Fri. 12/11     Hand in all the packet work.
               Today we are beginning the Dorothy Day pyramid project.  We
               will begin watching "Entertaining Angels: The Dorothy Day
               Story" today.    


RELIGION 7
Tues. 12/8     Handed back papers.
               We began Chapter 5, the Kingdom of God; discussed heaven
               and hell and purgatory.
Wed. 12/9      Fr. Tom gave a talk on his process of writing and presenting
               a homily as preparation for the homily project that students
               are to work on.  Students are to do this as homework.  We will
               not be using class time to write these.
Thurs.12/10    Continue chapter 5 and take notes on what a parable is.
               Complete ws 5a and b for tomorrow.
Fri. 12/11     Hand in ws 5a/b.
               Complete the worksheet on the kingdom parables found in
               Matthew.
               Also complete the worksheet on the Parable of the Good 
               Samaritan.



LITERATURE 7
Tues. 12/8     Work on playbill for "A Christmas Carol."  These are due at 
               the end of class on Wednesday.
Wed. 12/9      Finish the playbill and hand in today.
               GRAPE tomorrow.  Have your IRP book and signed reading log 
               tomorrow.
Thurs.12/10    GRAPE and book club discussion.
               Hand in signed reading logs.
Fri. 12/11     Introductory activity for Collection Three: Do the Right Thing.
               We will work on these today in class and Monday.





For the week of Nov. 30-Dec. 4
RELIGION 8
Mon. 11/30     House of Charity week:  while I am gone with different groups
               of students each day this week, students will work independent-
               ly on a reflection paper of their experience; they will read
               articles and complete worksheets on hunger; students will do a 
               collage or write a poem on hunger based on what they learned.
               This packet will be due next week at the end of class on 12/10.
Tues.-Fri.     same as above.

Mon. 11/30     Complete the review on the liturgical year, using the pamphlet
               "Catholic Basics 101."  This is due tomorrow.  Test on this
               will be Friday.
Tues. 12/1     Correct the liturgical year review.  Test over this material
               will be Friday.
Wed. 12/2      Read and discuss Advent, p.282-283 and complete ws A
               Review for Liturgical year and Catholic "stuff" test on
               Friday.
Thurs. 12/3    Finish Advent, p. 284-289 and do the Advent test as an
               open book test.  Also complete Advent worksheet b.
               Liturgical year test tomorrow.
Fri. 12/4      Liturgical year test.  Adoration in the chapel.

Mon. 11/30     Continue reading Act II, scenes 1-5 and complete questions
               #1-5.
Tues. 12/1     Finish reading "A Christmas Carol," Act II, scene 6 and
               finish the questions for Act II.  Also, complete the story
               map worksheet, both sides, for tomorrow.
Wed. 12/2      Hand in worksheet on Act II.
               Begin research project, the playbill for "A Christmas Carol"
               This project is in place of a test so it needs to be individual
               work.
Thurs. 12/3    Work in class on the playbill project.  GRAPE will be Friday.
               Be sure to have your signed reading logs by Friday.
Fri. 12/4      GRAPE day and book club discussion.




For the week of Nov. 23-24 HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Mon. 11/23     In preparation for House of Charity next week, students watched
               a video about a soup kitchen in Philadelphia.  It will be 
               finished tomorrow.
Tues. 11/24    Finish watching and discuss "We Have a Table For 4 Ready"
               House of Charity week is next week.


RELIGION 7
Mon. 11/23     Guided meditation.  Students then worked on the Unit Review
               on pages 53-54-55-56.  This is class work.  We will finish in 
               class tomorrow.
Tues. 11/24    Finish the unit review and correct.


LITERATURE 7
Mon. 11/23     We continued reading "A Christmas Carol" Act I scenes 4-8.
               Complete the worksheet except for numbers 9 and 10.
Tues. 11/24    Finish Act I.  Complete questions and hand in.  Complete
               the quiz on the first act.

Mon. 11/16     Out of Harm's Way:
               Began the personal safety curriculum--discussed personal
               rights and personal power
               House of Charity permission slips are due.
Tues. 11/17    Continuing personal safety, we discussed online benefits
               and dangers and how to avoid the dangers.
               In small groups, students will make a poster to alert
               others to what they can do to be safe online.
Wed. 11/18     The class worked on their internet safety posters.
Thurs.11/19    Out of Harm's Way: we discussed scenarios called "Protect
               or Tell"
Fri. 11/20     Out of Harm's Way: we went through questions on boundary
               building, tricks that predators use, and when to say "no."
               This is the final day for the personal safety curriculum

    

RELIGION 7
Mon. 11/16     Began the personal safety curriculum today--discussed personal
               rights and personal power.
Tues. 11/17    Out of Harm's Way:  discussed how people can lie online and
               trick us into believing them.  Students took a blog safety 
               quiz and then we discussed the results of that.
Wed. 11/18     Out of Harm's Way:  discussed trusted adults in their lives;
               also discussed assertive vs. aggressive behavior.
Thurs.11/19    Out of Harm's Way: we discussed scenarios of role power and
               and how to deal with it using personal power.
Fri. 11/20     Students took a quiz on groomers and what their purpose was
               in various situations; then we corrected and talked about
               those.  This is the final day for the personal safety curri-
               culum.  Handed back grades for Unit I projects.    




LITERATURE 7
Mon. 11/16     Began "A Christmas Carol"; student worksheet on Christmas
               literature or stories; worksheet also includes a webquest
               on Charles Dickens.  Due at the end of class tomorrow.
Tues. 11/17    Discussed characteristics of drama; students completed a 
               worksheet using the play "A Christmas Carol" to give examples
               of these characteristics.
               Students also completed and handed in their webquest on Charles
               Dickens.
Wed. 11/18     We read Act I, scenes 1 and 2 and answered questions on the 
               worksheet; completed all in class.
               GRAPE tomorrow--be sure to have signed reading log and book to
               read; have IRP if at all possible.
Thurs.11/19    GRAPE day and discussion.
Fri. 11/20     Went through the esaay test and answers for Collection II
               and then handed back the tests; I took them in for conferences.
               We read "A Christmas Carol" in class, scenes 3 and 4.

For the week of Nov. 2-5
RELGION 8
Mon. 11/2     Students received their directions and rubric for the Unit II
              jigsaw project.  Each group is assigned a chapter to teach the
              class using a power point presentation.  The presentations
              will take place next week Tuesday through Friday.
              Class time will be used to prepare the presentation.
Tues. 11/3    Class work on Unit II chapters-- preparing power points for
              presentations.
              Presentation schedule:

               Teresa movie was handed out today.  These will be due 10/29.
Tues. 10/20    Watch Mother Teresa video and take notes.
Wed. 10/21     Continue watching Mother Teresa video.
Thurs.10/22    Finish watching Mother Teresa.  Students were assigned to their
               groups for the RAFT assignment that is due Oct.29.
Fri. 10/23     We went to the chapel for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
               for the first half of class.
               Students then worked on their Mother Teresa RAFT assignment.

               for tomorrow.

               Sacrament is, we went to the chapel to pray for 20 minutes.

Mon. 10/12     We are talking about Native Americans; students completed the
               first 2 squares of the 4-square ws.  We began watching the
               video on Native Americans.
Tues. 10/13    We finished the video on Native Americans and handed in the
               4 square worksheet.
Wed. 10/14     Read 2 articles in the May/June Maryknoll magazine and 
               write 10 significant and specific pieces of information.
               Then read selected articles from the October issue of 
               Maryknoll magazine and write 10 significant, specific pieces
               of information from the articles.  


RELIGION 7
Mon. 10/12     We corrected the study guide for the Chapter 2 test tomorrow.
               Students began doing the word find for the 27 books of the 
               New Testament.  The word find is due Wed.  The test on the 
               27 books of the New Testament will be Friday, Oct. 23.
Tues. 10/13    Chapter 2 test.  Finish the NT word find.  The test on the
               27 books of the NT will be Oct. 23.
Wed. 10/24     Watch the clip from Jesus of Nazareth about the John the
               Baptist and the baptism of Jesus.



LITERATURE 7
Mon. 10/12     Students worked on their outlines of their family stories.
               If they got those done, they were working on the rough draft
               of their storyboard.  This will be presented in small groups
               on Wednesday.  Tomorrow is a workday to finish these.
               IRP is due on Oct. 29.
Tues. 10/13    Work on the final draft of your storyboard.  Presentation
               is tomorrow in small groups.  Final drafts and outlines
               will be handed in tomorrow.
Wed. 10/14     In small groups, share your storyboard about your family's 
               history.  Hand in the storyboard, the rough draft, and the 
               outline.




For the week of Oct. 5-9

Mon. 10/5     Correct chapter 4 review.
              Take chapter 4 open book test.
Tues. 10/6    Introduce social justice principles.
              Introduce 4 square activity ws; complete top two squares;
              watch the first half of the Mexico video and take 2-3 notes on
              what you saw.
Wed. 10/7     We finished the Mexico video and the notes on the ws.
              In small groups, students began the ws for Africa.
              We looked at the principle of solidarity.
Thurs.10/8    We watched the video on Africa:  Egypt and Tanzania and finished
              the 4 square ws on Africa.
Fri. 10/9     We watched the video on Asai: Japan and Cambodia and finished
              the 4 square ws on Asia.

Mon. 10/5     Read and discuss p. 15-16-17 about symbols.
              Read and complete ws for p. 18-19, taking notes on those pages.
              Then complete the worksheet 2a/2b about symbols and baptism.
Tues. 10/6    Go over notes for p. 18-19.  Discuss and hand in ws 2a/2b.
Wed. 10/7     Using the bibles, we compared and took notes on the baptism
              accounts of Jesus.
Thurs.10/8    Finish reading chapter 2.  Do the chapter 2 review, p.25-26
              for tomorrow.
Fri. 10/9     Correct chapter review, p. 25-26.  In small groups, complete
              chapter 2 study guide for Monday.

Mon. 10/5     Discuss character traits of Schatz and Papa from "A Day's Wait."
              Do the Reading Check together, p. 85.
              For tomorrow, complete Making Meanings, 1 through 7.
              Review for tomorrow's quiz covering "The Smallest Dragonboy,"
              "Three Skeleton Keys," and "A Day's Wait."
              Unit essay test will be on Thursday this week.
              GRAPE will be on Friday this week.
Tues. 10/6    We discussed the Making Meanings questions for "A Day's Wait."
              Students took the quiz for the last three stories.
              Begin the review grid for the essay test on Thursday.  These
              notes may be used for the test.  Tomorrow we will finish the 
              grid in class.

Wed. 10/7     The review grid is due tomorrow and may be used on the essay

              Introductory activity for Collection Two was handed out.
              Students are to find out stories about their families'
              histories.  This information will be put into an outline and
              then a storyboard for small group presentation.  Students
              will work on the outline and the storyboard on Monday and 
              Tuesday in class.
              GRAPE day is tomorrow; have your log signed and returned;
              have your IRP book with you.
Fri. 10/9     GRAPE.  Hand in reading log w/ parent signature.  In small
              groups discuss your book using assigned questions.
              Family stories are due Monday so students can work on their
              outlines and storyboards.

              On p. 61, do the reading check (a through e) and #1-2-3-4-5
              and 7 for tomorrow.  Be sure to rephrase the question into the
              answer and write in complete sentences.
Tues.9/29     Discuss and correct reading check and discussion questions on p.
              61 and hand in with active reading notes.
              Read p.64 and take notes; for tomorrow read "Three Skeleton
              Keys" p.65-76 and 10 active reading notes.
Wed. 9/30     In small groups, discuss and complete the graphic organizer
              horrow stories and villains.
              For tomorrow, complete the reading check, and the Making 
              Meanings questions #1-2-3-4 and choose either 5 or 6 or 7.
              GRAPE is tomorrow--be sure to have your IRP book with you.
Thurs.10/1    I handed back lit. quiz; students were given the opportunity
              to correct mistakes by giving the page number where the correct
              answer was found.
              Then we had GRAPE.  Reading logs from this past week were 
              handed in.  p. 77 due tomorrow.
Fri. 10/2     Discuss p. 77 and hand in along with reading notes for
              "Three Skeleton Key."
              Read and take notes on p.80 and do the Quick Write.
              For Monday, read "A Day's Wait" p.81-84.  Instead of active
              reading notes, list the character traits of Schatz and Papa.

              worksheet for Matthew 2:1-12, illustrating this part of the 
              infancy narrative--due tomorrow for 1st period students.

              due tomorrow.

              Quiz on Friday over the selections we have read so far: Rikki
              Tikki Tavi, The Runaway, Song of the Trees plus any notes we 
              took in class.  This is a multiple choice quiz.
              Also for Friday, do the Reading Check and #1-3-4-5-7 on p.42;

              write 5 complete sentences for each article, telling what you
              learned.  These are due tomorrow.
              Final draft of Beatitude essay is due Wednesday, 9/16.
Tues. 9/15    We discussed and handed in the worksheet for the Maryknoll
              magazine.
              We watched a clip from Pay It Forward to introduce social
              justice for the year.
              Students are to illustrate and memorize the Corporal Works of
              Mercy and will be quizzed on those for tomorrow.
              Beatitude essays are due tomorrow.
Wed. 9/16     Hand in Corporal Works of Mercy illustrations.  Students took
              an oral quiz on the Corporal Works.  For tomorrow, read and take
              notes on p.xii-xiii.  These will be graded.
Thurs.9/17    Check notes on p.xii-xiii.
              Begin taking notes on p.xvi-xviii.
