Newsletter

 For the Week of
November 16-20

Today you should be receiving your child’s first quarter report card.  As a class we had the chance to discuss what a report card means and how I as a teacher gather information for report cards.  I am very proud of how hard first graders have worked in the first quarter and I am excited to start the second quarter and continue their learning!

Next Week In

Reading:  We will continue in our reading series. We will read what is in the Egg? and What’s that Sound?   We will have Jr. Great Books on Tuesday from 1:30-2:30.

All November reports will be due on Monday, November 30th.

Religion:  We will spend part of our week discussing our Talking About Touch curriculum.  We will look at safe and unsafe touch and saying no to unwanted touch.  We will spend the second half of our week on how We Give Thanks to God. We will review the Lord’s Prayer and have a video assessment.

Math: We will continue to work with fact families, addition and subtraction up to 10.  We will begin flash card facts.  Please checkout my website under links for the Math Magician program used in our class.  Flashcards for at home use will be made in class next week.

Spelling: We will take a look at the –et family.  We have five words this week they are: let, get, met, are, and up.  Our first test will be on Thursday.  With the start of a new quarter we have added a sentence to our Thursday test.  I give the students the sentence to write.  For scoring the sentence a point is given for spelling each word correctly, starting the sentence with a capital and ending the sentence with proper punctuation.  Everyone did a great job this week with our first attempt at writing our dictated sentence.

Social Studies:  We will continue our study of Native Americans and the First Americans.  We will look at any study the life of a Pilgrim boy and girl as well as here about life on the Mayflower.

Science:  We will continue with our animal study. We will look at Places to Live.  Our focus this week will be on water habitats.

Pre-Conference Form

Dear Parents,

As we get close to conference time, I would like you to take a moment to fill out this sheet before conferences.  Use the back of it, if you need more space.  This will ensure that we cover all your concerns.  Please cut off the bottom and send it back to school with your child.  I look forward to seeing you soon!!!!

Thank you!

Jenny Israel
