Fleece Blanket Kindergarten Service Project
blanke2t.gif

As Christmas draws near, our St. Ambrose of Woodbury kindergarten religion curriculum will focus on the miracle of Jesus’ birth and the gifts of love our students can give to baby Jesus.  Kindergarteners will learn that these same gifts can be shared with other children in our own community.  And, they will be asked to give of themselves this season by participating in a special kindergarten service project to help mothers and their babies in need.  This class service project will require all students to help make tie-fleece baby blankets for families being served by the
St. Croix Valley Life Care Center in Stillwater, Minnesota.  This project is part of St. Ambrose of Woodbury School’s mission to provide service to others in our local community.

To assist us with this project, each kindergartener is being asked to bring a $6.00 donation (cash or check payable to St. Ambrose) to school by Tuesday, November 24, 2009.  This money will be used to purchase the fleece needed to make 15 baby blankets.  Parents are asked to make this project more meaningful for their children by encouraging them to contribute some of their own money or even earning the money needed by doing household chores or other activities at home.

Since this project comes at a busy time of the year, parent volunteers are needed who might be willing to help with the following duties:

● select and purchase fleece  (Nov. 23-27)

● cut fleece  (Nov. 30)

● work with students in the classroom to tie and assemble blankets  (Dec. 8)

● deliver blankets to the Life Care Center  (Dec. 15)

If you are able to assist us with our blanket making activities, please contact Mrs. Madden (651) 768-3042 at your earliest convenience.

I want to thank you in advance for your help with this kindergarten service project.  I am looking forward to working with your children on this activity.  Importantly, let's work together to instill in our kindergarteners the importance of giving of themselves as we all prepare for the birth of Jesus!
