Sharing ScheduleSharing is an important part of our kindergarten language arts program. Daily sharing experiences provide students with the opportunity to stand up in front of their friends and talk effectively and without fear about an object or topic that has meaning to them. Through this oral communication experience, children are able to develop the important skills of speaking and listening. In our kindergarten classroom, children will have an opportunity to share at snack time in the afternoon each day. Your child will have the same sharing day for the entire school year. For example, if Tuesday is his/her sharing day, then every Tuesday he/she may bring in something to share. We will follow the schedule below for the entire school year.
Sharing can mean many different things. In our class it means that your kindergartener may bring a special item: a trophy, a ribbon, a photograph, a picture your child has made, a favorite stuffed animal, an item from a collection, a favorite book, etc. to show his/her classmates. Sharing also can mean telling about a special event or something your child has learned. During sharing time, each kindergartener will be asked to tell the class 3 or 4 things about the item he/she has brought to class. After sharing with the class, each child will say, “I’m open for comments and questions.” At this time, your child may call on three children who may ask a question or make a comment about the item/topic that was shared. PLEASE NOTE: Any item brought to school will be kept in your kindergartener’s backpack for the day. It will only be taken out for sharing time. And, although we take extra care to handle special items carefully, please do not send one-of-a-kind or irreplaceable treasures. |
