Announcements

Dear Parents,

I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of you as we embark on the 2009-
2010 school year in second grade at Saint Ambrose of Woodbury School, and to
thank those of you who took time to visit second grade at our back to school
day. It was nice to have the opportunity to meet you and your wonderful
children. I am looking forward to a great year, as I hope you are too. This
letter is intended to provide you with some basic second grade information.
First, weekly bulletins come home every Friday, reflecting school news and
our schedule for the upcoming week. In addition, the bulletin will list your
child’s daily homework assignments and the date they are due, and stapled to
the bulletin will be paper and/or worksheets they will need to complete the
homework. Please remind your child to do their homework daily. Second
graders have homework three or four days per week. It is usually due the
next day. Please keep the bulletin handy, so you will be aware of the
activities and homework for each day.
Monthly, I will attach a book order to the Bulletin. If you would like to
order books from a book order, fill out the order form and return it with
payment by Friday of that week. Please make checks payable to the book order
company. I will complete the book order online and usually have the books
within two weeks.
Each child has a “take-home folder”. This folder should be used to carry
papers and homework to and from school. Please check the folder each
afternoon or evening. This is a great way to keep school papers organized.
Our afternoon break is around 2:30 p.m. The second graders may bring a box
of individually packaged, nutritious snacks to add to our community snack
shelf. Some suggestions are: crackers, pretzels, raisins or popcorn. Please
keep in mind we have a child with a peanut and tree nut allergy in our class,
read your labels carefully.
Your child is welcome to bring a treat for the class on his/her birthday. If
they have a summer birthday, we will celebrate their birthday on another day
of the school year. I will send a note home to inform you of the exact date
we will celebrate. There are 25 students in our second grade.
Each child will have the opportunity to be “Special Me” in second grade. A
form will be sent home the Friday before their big week. Please help your
child answer the questions and collect pictures to show their classmates.
Again, I am looking forward to an excellent year with many exciting plans for
your children!
