are appearing. One of these signs includes the sacrament of First
Communion! Congratulations to our second grade students as they received
this sacrament yesterday. May Jesus’ body and blood always guide you to
follow his way!

This week also celebrates our teachers and volunteers. It is teacher and
volunteer appreciation week at St. Agnes. On Friday, we have invited our
special volunteers, along with grandparents, to enjoy a variety of student
presentations and work displays. Please be sure that you join us too! Also,
please take some time to thank your teachers this week with a small gesture
of kindness. A card, note of thanks or a hug mean so much to them!
Thank you for returning the enclosed tuition agreement form by the date
posted.

Classroom Smiles
Thank you preschool parent Jennifer Schlangen for volunteering to lead a
May day project with the class last week. The preschool class also learned
about the letter Zz last week and sang a song about Zack’s zebra who could
zooooom!!!! As they studied nutrition, the students made a book about foods
that begin with each letter of the alphabet.
The boys and girls in Kindergarten are learning to tell time to the hour.
They began a reading lesson about the “Grouchy Ladybug.” After this story,
each child made his/her own clock to use in class.
The first grade class has been busy last week preparing for their reader’s
theatre. The students are excited to share the unique personalities of their
characters through their voices and expressions.
The second grade class is very excited to receive the Eucharist!
The third and fourth grade students enjoyed two field trips last week! On
Tuesday, they enjoyed the play, Jack and the Beanstalk at UMM in Morris. On
Wednesday, they participated in the Douglas County Groundwater Festival.
Some of the activities included: water pictionary, bubbleology, and a visit
to the water treatment plant. Thank you Jim Deters for providing a donation
to cover the transportation expenses for the field trip to the water festival.
The fifth and sixth grade students made May baskets for the shut-ins of
the area. It was a rewarding experience in doing a kind deed for
others. “Whatever you do for the best of my brethren, you do for me.”

Health News
Swine Flu-At this time, health and education officials are reminding people
to observe basic infection control practices for preventing the spread of the
flu. These measures include:
1.  Covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing;
2. Washing your hands often with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand
rub, and
3. Staying home when you are sick.
In addition, they are recommending that parents stay in regular contact with
local health officials and report to them if you have students with flu-like
symptoms who have been to Mexico or to parts of the U.S. with confirmed cases
of swine influenza, or students who have had contact with sick persons who
had been to one of the areas with confirmed cases of swine influenza. For
more information on swine flu, visit the Minnesota Department of Health at
www.health.state.mn.us and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at
www.cdc.gov/swineflu.
