Grades page update:
Mrs. Kimmerling and I worked on the website last week.  Please go to the announcement page on the English website and create a new bookmark.  Hopefully, you will then be able to view grades.  If this was not successful, please let me know.   Each student will receive a hard copy of his/her student update.

Eighth Grade:

The eighth graders are completing Unit 12 soon.   Their work on adjectives and adverbs will carry over into Unit 3-descriptive writing Students have begun practicing writing descriptively and will be expected to produce a descriptive sample.  There will be a Unit 12 grammar test next week.

A spelling component has been added to the program beginning this week.  The assignments will focus on word forms: severe, severely, severity for example.  Students will use the word forms to complete sentences.   Students will practice word usage along with reviewing a spelling rule.   Students will be expected to cite rule.

Seventh Grade:

The seventh graders are studying the parts of a sentence.  Soon we will begin working with compound subject and compound predicates.   Students are encouraged to review corrected work.  There will be a test next week on Unit 8.

Once Unit 8 is completed, students will return to the Idea writing trait.  Students will further their study of paragraph structure: main idea and supporting details. Students will be assessing paragraphs to determine quality of writing.   Students will be able to use a rubric to assess the quality of their own writing.
