Academic Procedures

1)  Do your very best! (Sit up straight and be actively involved!)

2)  Regular assignments;

a) must be finished completely!

b) must be handed in on time!

c) will either be corrected in class, handed in to Mr. Becker for correction, or you may have a quiz on the material (instead of the assignment being corrected.)

d) must be studied upon completion to prepare for the possibility of a quiz on the material!

e) must be appropriately identified with student name, section number, date, and assignment name (page number and problems required)

3)  Be prepared to have a quiz at any time!  Quizzes are short, usually only two questions are given.

Note:  When an assignment is due, Mr. Becker will roll dice to determine whether you will correct the assignment in class or if you will have a quiz. You must be prepared for either event!  Longer term assignments will be corrected by Mr. Becker personally, or will be corrected in class.  Whether corrected or inspected, Mr. Becker will write prescriptive comments as needed on each paper to guide the progress of each student.

4)  Assignments handed in separately from the class must be placed in the appropriate basket on Mr. Becker’s desk. (7th grade in the top and 8th grade in the bottom.)

5)  Assignments that have been corrected/inspected by Mr. Becker are placed in the appropriate basket by the windows (baskets are arranged by section, one basket per class.)  These papers are handed back to the students regularly by a chosen member of their class (but individual students if especially concerned about their ongoing progress, are responsible and encouraged to check for corrected/inspected papers more frequently.)

6)  You must keep track of your own progress!

Mr. Becker will provide you with an “Assignment/Daily Quiz Checklist” on which you must enter the name of the assignment, your score, and your current average percentage.

7)  Points are awarded for both effort and achievement:

Effort Points:

One point each for;

a) • Name, Assignment Title (page number and assigned problems), Section Number (e.g. 8-1, 7-3), Date

b) • All original problems written and answers circled

c) • All problems attempted and ALL WORK SHOWN!

Achievement Points:

Points given based on correct solutions when the assignment is corrected.

Typically we will have 20 points per assignment, 6 effort point and 14 achievement points.  Quizzes are usually 20 points!

8)  You can correct poorly done assignments.  If you score poorly on an assignment, correct your mistakes and then come to “confer” with Mr. Becker.  If you show that you understand the material, you grade will be raised!  NOTICE: THIS OFFER IS ONLY GOOD UNTIL THE DAY OF THE TEST!

9)  Another way to earn points:

You are assigned one A.D.D. (Arithmetic Developed Daily) set of problems each week.  This is review work, but if you have any difficulties, be sure to ask for help!  After every set of these A.D.D. problems (on the last class day of the week), there will be a 36 point quiz whose problems will be taken directly from the A.D.D. sheets!  Study for this quiz!

Please Note:

Help is always available.
