Social Studies Update
I enjoyed meeting many of you during our conferences last week. I greatly appreciate your time, effort, and support.
7th Grade Geography is currently studying the South American region. Our look at the continent begins with the Caribbean coastal countries and then moves inland. We will see many similarities in the region as well as many contrasts found in the this widely varied continent. Things coming up in the future include; our writing project that is done in connection to the English department, the Europe map quiz (January 22nd), and a continued focus on improving our writing skills.
US History has recently finished with the Reconstruction period. The students did a very nice job dealing with and understanding a variety of complex problems that were found in the unit. We had a look at varied success of many programs in south that were designed to integrate African-Americans into society as well and the failures of some of the efforts. We will be turning our focus domestically for the next few weeks, learning about the movement westward, and many of the inventions, social problems and changes that our country worked through during the time from the Civil War to the first World War.
