MUSIC NEWS

The 8th grade General Music class had the opportunity to try their hand at composing using different genres on the computer application called “Garage Band”.  Magic Garage Band allows them to choose a genre in which a stage of instruments is revealed and music of that style is heard.  The students can change the instrumentation and sound to come up with their own composition.  They had fun creating a song and learning about music genres at the same time.  We will be doing more advance work in “Garage Band” later in the year.
They will now begin their Halloween Song Parody.  The goal is to write a fun Halloween song for children using a familiar melody by changing the words.  The students will have the experience of writing catchy lyrics that rhyme along with following the rhythm structure of a song.

I’m very pleased with the sound and enthusiasm in the Junior High Choir.  I continue to encourage them to show this same spirit at Mass on Friday.  “Sing Your Praise to the Lord” award went to Miss Rowe’s homeroom for their great participation in Mass.  Each week this award will go to a homeroom or person who sings out at Mass.
The Choir began their preparations for the School Thanksgiving Mass which is Friday, Nov. 20th.  “Gloria Tibi Domine” will be their featured song.  They did a nice job learning the Latin for this song.  We hope you can join us for this very moving Mass in which the Varsity Band and Choir will be leading the music.
