Dear Parents,
The Portfolio Party was a great success last week, and I was glad so many of you could join us for the celebration of learning. You show
your children how important their learning is by taking the time to go through their work at such an event or at home. It was fun for me to see
their reactions the first time we compared that “start of year” folder to the work they do now. I hope you are able to experience that same
feeling of pride in the improvements you see. I think they all gained a sense of the importance of learning over the importance of grades or
perfection this year. It was one of my primary goals. Grades don’t matter until high school and perfection will never be reached. Improvement
and learning should be celebrated!
You will find your child’s reading level included in the report card. Please know that the level indicated is the level at which they work with
me to learn new words and vocabulary. If your child is reading on their own, they should read a book that is a couple levels easier, so that they
do not feel frustrated or have poor understanding of the book. Reading regularly over the summer will help your child be prepared for the start
of 3rd grade!
Thank you for entrusting your child to me this school year. These children have blessed my life and made me a better teacher. They give
me passion for the job. They came in the door each morning with energy, smiles, challenges, questions, and suggestions. They kept me on my
toes some of time, but other times they stopped me in my tracks with their insight, words of compassion or the way they connected our learning
to God. There were moments when a student would push me. When this happened, I looked at their eyelashes, and thought about how
amazing it is that God could place them so perfectly on their little eyelid, while he was creating them in his own image and likeness. This always
put my emotions in perspective. (You might want to try this during the summer on a rainy day when they are fighting or whining because they
are bored. It really does work!) They certainly reminded me that I don’t know everything, and they taught me something everyday. They
strengthened my faith by being so strong in theirs. I truly believe that this is where children can teach many of us adults a lesson. They made
coming to work an adventure, and they touched my heart in many ways. They are all very smart children, ready for 3rd grade. I hope they stop
down for visits next year!
Thanks for all you do as moms and dads. Your children are so bright, kind, and hard working because of you. Your support, generosity,
and commitment to St. Wenceslaus make my job easy. You inspire me.
Have a safe, relaxing, and exciting summer with your family!
With a grateful heart,
Mrs. Malecha
