October 9, 2008
Dear Parents,
I had such a lovely morning with your children. They were reading just- right books and talking about their mental images, questions,
connections, and predictions. It is gratifying to see them using the language they have been taught about books!
Congratulations to Carlie Simon and her family. Carlie welcomed a new baby sister, Addison, to the world yesterday morning! Please extend
your prayers to their family.
We started an “Our Intentions” chart in the classroom, where we are adding our “asking” prayers to God. We will add these intentions to our
daily prayers, and students are encouraged to add to the chart whenever they would like.
Our spelling word work has begun, and the first test will be tomorrow. The students should be able to spell the words correctly and also be
able to place them into the correct category. Not all the words will be given during the test, but samples from each category. I will put the
categories on the board for them to copy before we begin the test. More information about ways to practice the spelling and word sorts will be
sent home soon.
The students will also be given a science test tomorrow so that I can see how well they understand our work with plants. I suggested that
they review their work in their science folder with you. They did well in a review game yesterday, but I also need to check each individual’s
progress.
I am looking forward to visiting with you at conferences next week. If you have any questions about your conference time, please contact
Sherry at the front office. On Tuesday, the students will be released from school at 11:00. I hope that everyone enjoys the break from school!
Tuesday, Oct. 14th is an out of uniform day for those who donate a dollar or more to help support our Guatemalan sister, Geissel. It is a
great way to support others in the world that are less fortunate. Encourage your child to earn their money by doing a special job at home so that
they feel that their actions are making a difference.
On Halloween, the Student Council is hosting a “Costume Ball” in the PAC from 1:15-2:15. Our class will plan to attend! This is a change
from our regular plans, so those of you who signed up to help with our classroom party are welcome to help at the ball if you wish instead.
Student Council is looking for people who can work at different “stations.” It should be a very exciting afternoon, as no one is allowed to attend
the ball unless they are in costume…adults included! I hope some of you can come…it is sure to be a ball!
Looking forward to our conference and the fall break!
Mrs. Malecha
