Book Reports

Dear Fifth Grade Parents:
Your child will be participating in a book report/reading program
beginning October 5th and continuing until the end of the school year. This
program is designed to allow your child to experience all kinds of genres as
well as choose which project they would like to use to explain parts of the
book. There will be benchmark dates indicated below so there won’t be any
surprises.
Each child will be graded on the criteria indicated in the project
booklet. The only item I plan to delete is the first question about getting
the book approved. That will be the responsibility of the parent to approve
the genre and length of the book. I trust you know the level of your child’s
ability and will instruct them to match that level or go beyond.
If supplies are needed for a specific project, please do not spend
large amounts of money. I would prefer if things were handmade. I also
request that the children do the work themselves with the parents assisting
wherever necessary. Hopefully this will be a fun project and not something
you dread.

These are the reading categories:

*poetry
*biography/memoir
*historical fiction
*fiction
*science fiction/fantasy
*nonfiction
*mystery

You may go in any order. You may also choose which project you would
like to do. For poetry your child will read a total of ten poems. For their
one project, they must memorize one of the poems and act it out.
Books must be chosen from either our BLLH library or a public
library. They may not be ones that have already been read. Thank
you!
