The most exciting news in the computer lab is that we have NEW COMPUTERS! The
computers are intel based iMac running 0S X software. They have a large screen with
a built in camera. We have a few new programs that the students will be learning.
Preschool:
Preschool Students are listening to some story CD's. These Students
are also learning the basics of the computer lab and practicing using a
mouse in the program ABC Learning. They also love to point, click, and drag using
an internet program.
Kindergarten:
PROGRAM DAY:
When students come into the computer lab, they must sign in with their first name and
last initual. They also have a short password they have to type in. They are learning
to recognize the letters in their own name and how to use the delete button, the space
bar, and the return key. The Kindergarten students are learning how to point, click,
and drag using the internet and a program called KiD Pix.
1st Grade:
First gaders really like the program Kid Pix. This program allows them to create
pictures using a variety of painting tools such as a pencil, wacky paint brush and a
paint bucket. They are also learning how to create backgrounds with animations.
2nd Grade:

3rd Grade:
The 3rd grade students will be using a word processing program called Microsoft
Word. They will learn some basic word processing skills. Some skills they will be
learning will be formatting text, using spell check, and editing their work.
They will be using the program Type to Learn. Type to Learn is a computer
keyboarding tutorial course which presents learning opportunities while training
keyboarding skills. Typing drills are designed as motivating games which can be
played after the student has completed a lesson.
4th Grade:

They will also continue to work in the program Type to Learn.
5th Grade:

They will be using the program Type to Learn.
INTERNET SAFETY LINKS-
All students will be spending quite a bit of time getting
familiar with the internet. All classes will be using the internet
throughout the year for a variety of class projects. Students will be
learning some of the basics of using the internet, such as using the
navigation buttons, understanding web browsers, and searching
techniques. They will use a variety of search engines. GOOGLE.COM
YAHOOLIGANS.COM ASKJEEVES.COM KIDSCLCIK.ORG
Here are some websites about Internet Safety that some of the classes
will use.
The students are finding out that the internet is not just for games and
chatting. They also are learning to use several different search engines.
They will spend some time looking at Yahooligans, Google, Ask Jeeves
and Kidslink. Yahooligans is a friendly web directory which has many
topics to explore. It has a reference section that includes a dictionary,
encycopedia and a fact book..
