Proficiency Goals * Students will use the World Wide Web to supplement and enhance school curriculum areas. * Students will use a list of teacher selected bookmarks for an Introducing to "surfing." Guidelines Teachers should prepare lessons in curriculum areas that can be enhanced with resources found on the World Wide Web. Students should be introduced to the basics of Netscape Navigator, including hypertext links, bookmarks, and selected toolbar commands (forward, back, home). To introduce the students to searching the web, teachers should have a very limited list of bookmarks prepared from which to choose. Then each student should explore those sites in a specific sequence as guided by the teacher using the hypertext links. During the school year the teacher should amass additional sites which the students can view during a guided class time. They should watch the monitor as they are guided through a discovery lesson in Science, Social Studies, or other curricular areas. This activity should be repeated at different sites for different classes on a regular basis. Grades 3, 4 Proficiency Goals * Students will use the World Wide Web to supplement and enhance school curriculum areas. * Students will continue to use sites that have been teacher-selected and bookmarked. * Students will be introduced to e-mail and will send and receive e-mail. * Students will use e-mail for an educational project. Guidelines Teachers should create structured lists of curriculum related web sites (bookmarks) for the students to use. The basics of Netscape should be reviewed, including an introduction to the menu bar and location line (URLs). Students will be told which site to search and the information to be gathered at the site (set a purpose). Students must receive permission from the teacher to print any information from the Internet. They should not conduct unguided searches during their independent computer time. The students should be able to contact another person using e-mail. When introducing e-mail, have the students e-mail one another first before sending e-mail to outside sources.
