A total of 12 fiction books and 6 non-fiction books are required to be
read by fourth grade students. Fiction books must be at least 75 pages in
length and non-fiction books must be at least 40 pages in length.
I also require students pass at least 2 A.R. (Accelerated Reader)
quizzes a quarter with an 80% or higher. Acclerated Reader is a program
that all middle school and high school students at Chillicothe R-II are
required to use, so we would like to introduce this program to them this year.
The Reading Circle Award is given to students that complete the 12
fiction books and 6 non-fiction books reading requirement at the end of the
year. I also give out a Genre Award to students that complete a book report
on each of the 12 genres we learn about at the beginning of the year.
Their book reports are recorded in their personal Reading Notebooks at
school. I must see the book they would like to do for a book report on
their nightly reading log to count for a book report.
A reading log is sent home Monday through Thursday nights that
requires 20 minutes of reading and completion of a log that goes along with
our weekly skill in reading that week. These are collected on Friday and
are worth a significant portion of their reading grade.
