BIST tip

Unlike when we were in school, if a student said or did something hurtful
or disruptive, they were sent directly to the principal’s office. We are
trying to empower kids to deal with their problems, not expecting the
principal to be the only problem-solver. BIST has a series of steps that are
typically followed if the misbehavior continues. The steps are in this
order: redirect, safe seat in student’s classroom, safe seat in another
classroom, recovery room, principal’s office and then possibly being sent
home. The sequence or these steps are followed when a child is moving out of
the classroom and returning to the classroom. According to the student’s
misbehavior, some of the steps may be skipped if necessary.
