B.E.S.T.

B.E.S.T. (Becoming Excellent Students Today) is a program designed to help students in grades K-3 in reading. This is an afterschool program that meets on Monday and Wednesdays afterschool until 4:30 P.M. There is a teacher for each grade level and no more than seven students in a group. Reading comes alive by having hands-on experiences, readers theater, and reading games and practice. Children are taught with a variery of methods to help those that may have difficulty learning to read in the tradional way. More one on one help is available because of the small groups. Those meeting attendance requirements are invited to attend a live theater performance at the Liberty Center in Sedalia and the year ends with a picnic at the city park. Children earn BEST Bucks by having good attendance and effort. Bucks are used to purchase books and other prizes at the BEST store in the counselor's office. Progress is monitored by pre/post tesing. Participation in this program is based on achievement test reading scores, teacher and parent referral. Please call my office if you have questions or would like for your child to take advantage of this extra boost.
