How is homework graded?

I view homework as practice. Bookwork is assigned for every lesson we cover
in class and is typically worth 4 points. This usually amounts to 3-4 nights
(12-16 points) of homework per week. We will grade every assignment in class.
Homework is usually due the day after it has been assigned. The grading
scale is as follows:

1 point - the assignment is incomplete and the problems that were done were
done so mostly incorrect.

2 points - the assignment is incomplete but the problems that were done were
done so mostly correct.

3 points - the assignment is complete but several-to-many questions were
incorrect.

4 points - the assignment is complete and only a few questions are incorrect.

The exact number differs with the length of each assignment but is usually
between 2.5 - 4 questions that the student can miss and still receive credit
for a perfect paper. Simply put, if the student completes the assignment and
earns more than 75% he/she will be granted a 4/4 100% paper.

Can I turn in late homework?

Every Monday the students will be handed a printout of the previous week's
missing homework. The students have until that Friday to turn in any or all
assignments on that list for partial credit, 50% is the maximum credit received.
After that Friday if the assignment is not turned in, it will be permanently
recorded as a zero.

Where do quiz questions come from?

We have a quiz over every two sections from the book which amounts to about
once per week. Every single quiz question is copied and pasted directly from
the homework questions. So If you are doing you homework, then you have already tried each
quiz question and we have graded it in class where you have had the
opportunity to ask your own questions about it. Because of this system I
expect every student to have an average quiz score of 85% minimum.

Can I really use my notes on the test?

Yes, after you have worked on your test for about 15 minutes I allow you to
get out the notes that you have hand written from class. You are allowed to
use your notes for approximately 10 minutes before I ask you to put them back
away, which should leave you about 15 minutes left in class to finish the test.

How do I earn Preparation points?

No more than once a week, usually during SSR(silent sustained reading) time, I will
check for six items that should be brought to class every day and the student will be awarded
one point for each item present for a maximum score of 6/6. Those items are:
1) pencil
2) red / green pen for grading
3) calculator
4) textbook
5) time tracker / planner
6) book to read
