Bring Back Packs will be sent home periodically with students for Show and Tell. Please make sure any item sent to school is not breakable, valuable, perishable or living. If you would like to send a birthday treat with your child on or near his/her birthday, please feel free to do so. These treats will be eaten in the afternoon. Birthdays are recognized during our calendar routine as well. We will recognize July birthdays in August, and June birthdays in May. Please do not send birthday party invitations to be distributed at school unless all children receive an invitation.
I wil c Parent and Teacher conferences are held at the end of the first and third quarter. The conferences will be held on October 25th & 26th and then on March 22nd & 24th. Conference times are scheduled by calling the office. Communication is important. You can reach me by school phone, by email (bondj@osage.k12.mo.us) or by note in your child’s SMILE book. We will have computers each Friday. I will send home websites that you and your child may like to explore together at home. d Discipline is simple. We work hard as a class to make the classroom a positive and safe place for all. The students and I will create a list of classroom expectations that each student will sign and take home.

Early Release Days will take place occasionally throughout the year. The early release days are September 6th for the Labor Day weekend, Sept. 22, Oct. 20, and May 19. Information will be sent home regarding any changes in scheduling.

Writing takes place every day in 1st
Grade. One way we accomplish this is through writing stories in our journals
during writer’s workshop. Encourage your child to write at ho K Keep updated by reading the classroom newsletter every week and checking the SMILE Book every day for other notes and information. L Our class will visit the library on day 4. Our librarian is Mrs. Edwards. Your child will be able to check out 2 books when we visit the library and return them by the following library day. If your child forgets to return the books, they will not be allowed to check out new books until they are returned. Our class eats lunch from 11:45-12:15. You are welcome to come eat lunch with your child, just check in with the office when you arrive. When lunch money is sent to school, please send it in the SMILE book. There is a yellow zippered pouch for this purpose that is located in the front of the SMILE book. M The children will have music class with Ms. Fields on day 2 . I will also incorporate music into many classroom lessons to enhance our learning.
The 1st Grade math curriculum provides students with mathematical experiences that help them develop number sense and a positive attitude towards mathematics that will continue throughout their school career and lives. Math concepts are covered through our daily calendar and math workshop routine. We will also keep a math journal to show our math thinking. N

Our class has Peaceful Playground each day from 11:15-11:30 and from 2:30-2:45.
Your child will be compiling a poetry journal which they will take home at the end of the year.

1st Grade report

We will be learning responsibility by having assigned jobs and procedures for our classroom environment.
S The focus of the 1st Grade science/social studies curriculum is on developing an awareness of the world in which we live. Science and social studies concepts and skills will be explored utilizing a literacy based, hands-on approach.
SMILE Books help keep us organized. This 3-ring binder houses a homework folder, money/notes pouch, and other items that assist with communication between home and school.
A daily snack will be served. If you are able, please send one snack each month for the students to share during snack time. We currently have 20 students enrolled.
Our special classes rotate every 4 days and meet from 9:40-10:25.

Family vacations are wonderful opportunities for your family; however, please be sure to let us know that you are planning on taking a vacation (during school time). You will need to fill out a form in the office.
