Parents

Welcome to First Grade in Room 208!

Your child will learn and grow so much this year.

Please encourage your child as he/she learns new skills at school and help them practice at home. The biggest focus in first grade is READING! You can help your child become a better reader by reading to them and listening to them read to you. When you go to the grocery store, have them read food labels and signs. In the car, let them read the road signs to you. In a restaurant, read the menu together. There are opportunities EVERYWHERE to read.

What to expect the first few weeks.....

1. We will be learning about each other and classroom routines.

2. We will be establishing our classroom schedule.

3. We will be creating classroom rules together.

4. We will be getting used to being in a school routine again.

5. We will be reviewing skills needed to grow as first graders, such as handwriting and alphabet knowledge.

I will always send classroom information home in your child's S.M.I.L.E. Book. Please make sure to check the home to school folder inside for important papers. I will also post information on the website.

If you ever have questions about anything regarding school or your child, please do not hesitate to contact me through a note in your child's S.M.I.L.E. Book pouch, or an email. If you would like to speak on the phone about an issue, I am available at 10:00 each day to take or make a call. I am also available after school by appointment if you'd like to speak in person.
