I placed students' pictures at the top of the page and they filled out the rest. My name is Alexis. It starts with A. I like apples. MyNameIscoverandpages.doc Oops! Student pages were deleted because I realized their names were on them.
Here's an example of what I wrote under a student's pic: Blayre, You are special because you care about others. YouAreSpecialclassbook2009.doc This idea came from a wonderful teacher named Denise Baker. When a child has a birthday, all of the other children make a page for them that is compiled into a keepsake book. My students loved making the pages for their friends each time we celebrated a birthday. After the book was put together, I had the birthday child sit in my special reading chair and they called up each friend one at a time to read the page they made to the birthday student. At the end of the 2008-2009 school year, I made a page for each child letting them know why I thought they were special and compiled a book for them to take home on the last day of school as a special keepsake from their first grade teacher, who loved them all! This goes along with the book "Mrs. McNosh Hangs Up Her Wash".
It was adapted from an idea that came from Jessica Meacham.
TheBestThingAboutFirstGradeclassbook2009.doc
This was made by my 2008-2009 class (the last month of school) for me to read to the incoming 1st graders for 2009-2010 school year. I thought they might like to hear what other 1st graders thought about their first grade year. This goes along with the book "Don't Laugh At Me". It's about differences between people. I use it to teach respect for others in the classroom.
This is made after we read "Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs".
Mr. Smiley's Day Out
Mr. Smiley is our class mascot. We made a trip to our school's Outdoor Classroom and I took a picture of each student with Mr. Smiley. Then, each student made a draft page of what they did with Mr. Smiley on his day out with our class. I then edited with them and created each page on the computer (using a smiley face font, no less!). Needless to say, the kids LOVED this book. I made black and white copies of the book for each student to take home as a first grade keepsake.
