Eighth grade will be entering 2 POETRY CONTESTS, Creative Communications and Anthology of Poetry. The same poem can be entered in both contests.
A rough draft is due on Wednesday, November 11, 2009.
The final draft or good copy (3 copies, please) is do on Friday, 11/20.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Poems must be typed.
Do not type in all capital letters and do not double space.
Poems must be original work.
All types of poetry are acceptable.
Poems must have a title
There are some rules specific to each contest.
ANTHOLOGY OF POETRY
Heading: 1) full name, 2) age, and 3) address must be included. Information should be typed in the top right hand corner of the page.
Criteria for selection:
~Originality
~Rhythmic sounds
~Rhymes
~Audience appeal
~Also considered are a writer's fresh approach to a simple subject and works that exhibit the
author's involvement in the subject matter.
The selection process:
Approximately 55% of the submissions are selected for publication.
CREATIVE COMMUNICATIONS
Heading: 1) name, 2) current grade, 3) school name, 4) school address, and 5) teacher's name.
Information should be typed in the top right hand corner of the page.
Poems can not be any longer than 21 lines
