READING
As we continue to focus on the short story and its basic elements of plot, character, setting,
and theme,critical thinking and reading strategies will be stressed to help the students gain a
fuller understanding of the short story. We will delve more specifically into character traits with
the short story "Flowers for Algernon". Each story will be followed by a movie (when available),
a creative writing assignment, and a test.
VOCABULARY
Vocabulary words and their definitions and syntax will continue to be taken from our
Vocabulary for Achievement workbook. Each lesson is based on a topic or theme or on a word
root or roots. The lessons have been chosen for their usefulness and appropriateness to the
grade level and provide comprehensive instruction and practice.
ENGLISH
The next two chapters focus on identifying and using prepositions, conjunctions,
and interjections. Taking notes, editing, and study skills continue to be taught on a regular basis.
Diagramming is used for illustration and will be gradually incorporated into assignments.
There will be an English exam this semester.
GRADE 7B
READING
The short story continues to be our focus with emphasis on plot, character, and theme.
We will also begin to delve into the world of drama with Rod Serling's "The Monsters Are
Due on Maple Street". Just as conflict and resolution are at the heart of drama, so it is with
real-life, so we will be discussing fundamental kinds of conflict in daily life.
Each story will be followed by a movie (when available), a creative writing assignment,
and a test.
