BELLARMINE SPEECH LEAGUE CLUB: Schools participating in the League compete with one or more teams of 12 students, each comprised of three serious, three humorous and three duet speeches. The speeches are licensed and purchased by the APT, chosen by the students and memorized. The fun part begins when the students begin “acting”, and in effect, become the characters they have chosen.
Teachers serve as coaches with numerous after school rehearsals set by the individual teacher/coach and the student until the day of the meet. The students perform their selection at a meet on a Saturday (see dates below), in front of a room full of parents, fellow contestants, and of course, a trained Bellarmine judge and timekeeper. Ribbons are then awarded to all participants based on a combined total of the judges’ scores from two rounds. There are four (4) meets every year, including the final meet in May.
Students who are interested in joining the SpeechTeam this year will be filling out and turning in an SGM Club Form in the next few weeks. Ms. Brand will then be meeting with the interested students to fill them in on all the important details. If more students are interested than slots available, students will be chosen in the order in which speeches are memorized. The Bellarmine Speech Meet dates for 2009-2010 are:
November 7th @ Ste. Genevieve DuBois
February 6th @ St. Joeseph in Manchester
May 1st - FINAL MEET - @ MICDS
