Dear Parents,
This week had our Reconciliation retreat and I think that everyone had a great time.  The students learned new prayers and song to help them remember the steps of Reconciliation.  Thank you to all of the parent volunteers that were able to join us!!

For Reading this week we are reading our Charlotte's Web book as a group.  Each student has their own book that they use to follow along while I am reading the book.  After each chapter we discuss what happened in the chapter and summarize it.  We talk about the characters that were in the chapter and what the setting is.  There are also many new words that we are adding to our vocabulary from this book.  The students write down the interesting language that they come across in the book and we discuss what the meaning of the word is.

In Science this week we wrapped up our chapter on animals with and without backbones.  The students all did great on their test!  We also learned about different facts about spiders and other insects.  We will be putting our spider facts up in the hallway to share with everyone.  Stop by and look at them if you are walking through.

During Math class we wrapped up our chapter on number concepts and patterns. We learned to write numbers that come before, between, and after. We also learned ordinal numbers and patterns. Next we will be starting shapes and angles - geometry! Next week's timed test will be +12. The weeks after that will all be cumulative up to 12+12. I will let you know when we'll start subtraction. I am so proud of the students that study and know their facts! Way to go, 2nd grade!!

In Religion this week we discussed different ways that we can say that we are sorry if we do something wrong.  We can write a note, tell the person we are sorry, or maybe give them a hug to let them know we are sorry.  We had our test to wrap up the Unit on forgiveness and reconciliation.

Phonics this week covered long i sounds.  The students now that if a word has ie or i_e then it has the long i sound.  The class was able to come up with many great examples.

There is a lot of things that are going to be happening next week.  Our class will be going to the book fair on Monday.  So if you would like to send money with your child you can so he or she can buy a book.  I will see you at conferences on either Thursday or Friday.
