Dear Parents,
We had a great week but I can tell that everyone is getting excited about Christmas break coming up! The students have told me all about the elves showing up at their house! We have been SO excited about these elves!!
Here are a few things that we did this week.
During Religion class, we discussed the season of Christmas and how we sing songs to rejoice that baby Jesus is coming. We also discussed the importance of the nativity scenes that we may see set up in our homes and neighborhoods.
In Reading class this week we read
Officer Buckle and Gloria
. It's a cute story where an officer goes to school and teaches lesson about being safe and what rules help us to do that. Then one day he gets a dog companion named Gloria. She helps to spice up his talk by doing tricks. But he doesn't know that she is doing them. It is a funny story. Ask your child if he/she remembers who always remembered Safety Tip #7: Always wear a crash helmet.
For Grammar we learned about, read, wrote, and gave examples of subject-verb agreement.
This week in Science, we wrapped up our chapter of life cycles of plants, insects, and mammals. We also looked at the differences and similarities between us and our friends in class. We will be starting on our Science Fair Projects when we get back from break. Each class is doing a whole group project.
This week in Spelling our words consisted of the long u sound. We learned all sorts of ways that letters make the long u sound: u and u_e. Please continue to study words each night. One helpful strategy may be to study the first 7 words one night, then 8 the next night.
In math this week, we wrapped up fractions and started 2-digit addition. We are learning how to regroup, and still focus on place value - ones, tens, and hundreds. Since the beginning of second grade, we've worked on circling key words in problems and directions. We also double check that we know what the question is asking for. We've learned a lot of helpful strategies, and will continue to implement them during math class.
Next week will be a short and fast week but it should be fun. We have our Christmas party on Tuesday! I hope you have a very Merry Christmas!
