Quarter LetterRELIGION We will be learning about the birth of Jesus, the
Son of God. We will find out how Jesus is still with us and He teaches us about
forgiveness. We will continue to use Bible stories to reinforce these concepts.
As we enter into the Advent season, there will be specific activities in
preparation for His coming. READING This quarter’s stories will include a variety of
genre. Realistic fiction, humorous, fantasy, nonfiction and informational
articles will continue to be reinforced. We will compare and contrast the
stories to increase their comprehension skills. Emphasis will be placed on
reading with fluency. PHONICS/ENGLISH This quarter we will introduce long vowel sounds
and their rules. Example: silent e at the end makes the first vowel long (came)
or the first vowel does the talking and the second vowel does the walking
(coat) Blends at the beginning and end of words will be reinforced. SPELLING Spelling words continue to reinforce the current
phonics skills, which this quarter will be long vowels and blends. MATH Math concepts to be taught are: Addition and
Subtraction to 10 Plane and
Solid Shapes Spatial
Sense and Patterns Fractions
and Probability HANDWRITING We will continue to practice proper letter/number
formation. Strong emphasis will be placed
on turning in neat work in all
subject areas.
SCIENCE
Our unit teaches us about Earth Science. The concepts covered will be: Rocks
and Soil Land
Changes Natural
Resources Reduce,
Recycle Reuse Different
kinds of Weather SOCIAL STUDIES We will begin our unit on geography. We will focus
on our part in our community, state, country and continent. We will look at
pictures, maps, globes, and places around you to learn about geography.
