FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
What should I do if my child is sick? When your child is sick, please notify the school office and let them know whether we should send homework home with a sibling or a friend or whether you will pick it up in the school office. We understand that your child has been sick and may not quite be up to completing it all in one night, but I would ask that they complete it in a couple of days so that your child does not fall too far behind or feel overwhelmed. How do Scholastic Book orders work? Every month we will send home a Scholastic book order form. If you choose to purchase books, please return your order by the due date listed on the back of the form. Please make sure your check payable directly to Scholastic Books. No CASH is accepted, checks only please. We mail the book order early in the morning on the due date! Orders are usually delivered in about 2 weeks. What is the best way to contact the teacher? Communication between home and school is essential. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please contact me. I can be reached by voice mail at (314) 822-8844 Ext. 406 or email me at cdunning@sgmschool.org How are discipline issues handled? We have a red, yellow, green stoplight discipline program that we use to encourage good behavior. If a child is well behaved, they will be in a green (Green=great job!) If a child is not following our rules, we will give them several warnings. If the behavior continues after the warnings, their status changes to yellow(Yellow=Oops!) If they are in the yellow status and continue the behavior, they are in the red status. (Red=Let's talk!) If the child goes into the red area, that means they have not made an effort to follow the rules. We will be talking to them but feel at this point, you would want to know so that you can follow up at home. We will be sending home a form that will inform you of the behavior that needs to be addressed, and we ask that you sign the form and return it to school. With home and school working together, the problem can be corrected. We will assign homework approximately three times a week. It will be stamped "homework" and should be returned the next day unless otherwise noted. Spelling words will be sent home a month in advance and the current words will be posted on this website in the homework icon. The spelling lists have a Week of date so that you will know which words will be learned that week. It will also list the Spelling Test dates. Spelling words should be reviewed on a nightly basis. All notes, homework and completed papers will be sent home in this special folder on a daily basis. Please EMPTY this folder every day! Go through all completed papers. If you should find an error, please feel free to go over it with your child. Praise your child for their efforts. Keep all completed papers at home unless otherwise noted. You may use this Blue Go Home Folder to send homework back to school or to send any notes to us. A Color Day is a day in which your child can be out of their uniform to celebrate their birthday or a special All School Color Day as announced by Dr. Koberlein. Please be sure and check the SGM website or page 42 of the buzzbook for specific guidelines concerning appropriate Color Day outfits which are allowed to be worn at SGM. Thank you for following these policies. |
