Reading, the children will continue to be exposed t entertaining stories. It will be from theses stories that they will continue to work on story elements such as characters, setting, plots, and summarizing what they have read. The children, through various activities, will be using context clues to get the main idea, find supporting details, draw conclusions, and discover the meaning of new vocabulary. Your child will receive information on a book report and when the assignments is due. English: English will take us on the road to nouns, possessive nouns, abbreviations for titles, days and months. We will also travel down another path with verbs. That study will include action verbs, linking verbs, and helping verbs. This quarter the children will do some explanatory writing. They will be writing in sequence, putting together a "how to " list of doing a ask or making something. Spelling: Spelling will take us in the direction of words with sounds that contain vowel = r ( dark, clear, storm, her, girl, turn, work), the sound "oi"(coin, boy", the "j" sound (stage, jump, judge, giraffe), and the "k" and "kw" sounds (quick, park, crack). To assist your child with spelling, it would be beneficial if your child would review five words each night. Social Studies: This first quarter takes us into the geography, resources, and environment of communities, including various landforms and mapping. Along with that, we will discover early communities in America and begin talking about American on the move. Religion: We will finish up with studying Saints. We will recall some familiar prayers to show unity in what we pray for. We will learn how Jesus shows us how to love, forgive, and heal. We will study Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, The Great Commandment, The Ten Commandments, and the Holy Spirit. Friday Folders: Each student will use their previously purchased eight pocket folder to hold papers for all subject areas and any homework given. Your child should be sure to bring the folder to school each day. Graded papers, Weekly Progress Reports, and notes from the office will be sent home on Fridays in their Friday folder. Please sign and return the Weekly Progress Report and any work consisting of a 79% or below.
