TEXTBOOK SERIES: "Share the Music"
CLASS SCHEDULE: Kindergartners will experience music in the form of singing
movement, and playing instruments for 30 minutes a week. Students in grades
1-2 will have music for 30 minutes twice a week.
PERFORMANCE: Students will look forward to performing a Christmas program on
December 10th at 7PM.
KEY 2nd QUARTER CONCEPTS
-KINDERGARTEN will experience high/low, loud and soft, and fast and slow
through singing games, playing instruments and movement. Students will also
be working on steady beat and performance posture as we work towards the
Christmas Performance.
-FIRST GRADE will be exploring the following concepts: call and response
songs, music notation (quarter and eighth notes, sol and mi pitches), meter
and tempo. First grade will develop good singing posture for unison singing.
-SECOND GRADE will develop good singing posture and vocal tone through
vocal warm-ups. They will also practice beat and rhythm through singing
games. Second graders will continue to work on reading and writing music
notation. As we prepare for our Christmas program we will work on solo and
chorus songs as well as keeping a steady beat on instruments to accompany
singing.
GRADING:
Grades will be assigned based on the student's mastery of key concepts such as
in tune singing, correct identification of pitch or tempo, keeping a
steady beat on instruments and through movement, and applying correct voice to
classroom activities. Students will also be assigned a participation
grade.

Each class will earn music awards based on their behavior each music class
period. Individual students may also receive a music note. If your student
brings home a music note be sure to ask him/her about the specific behavior or
musical skill demonstrated that day. I will adhere to the consequences
established by the Primary Level teachers.
