Behavior & Work Expectations

BEHAVIOR
Students in the intermediate grades are held to a high standard of behavior.  Respect for self and others is stressed.  We believe our policy stresses the importance of self-discipline, is age-appropriate, and child-centered.  Students track and monitor their behavior by receiving three tokens to keep in their desk.  G= Good no tokens lost. Students will lose a token when there is a rule infraction.  S= Satisfactory one token lost.  Students are usually given a verbal warning before a token is lost.   NI = needs improvement means two tokens are lost.  When three tokens are lost,  U= Unsatisfactory, the student will conference with Dr. Koberlein.  Weekly progress reports will reflect student behavior for the week.  Serious rule infractions will result in implementation of the all school discipline policy.  (See handbook.)  All students will start the week with three tokens - a fresh start!

HOMEWORK
Students will keep track of all assignments in their notebooks.  These are kept at their desks throughout the day. Students are required to write down the assignments as they are given.  About 45-60 minutes of homework will be assigned each night. (Weekends will be lighter!) They may still need assistance in checking over and proofreading their work.  Study skills are taught in the classroom to practice at home. When they are finished studying it is then appropriate for a parent to quiz or review with the student.  If you notice your child struggling to complete homework, please call.  Also, please remember that sports is not an acceptable reason for not completing homework.

Quizzes, tests, projects, and book reports will consist of two thirds of the student's grade. The remaining one third will account for daily work, and homework.

Each student will have their previously purchased eight pocket folder.  Students use their eight pocket folder to hold papers for all subject areas and any homework given that day. Your child will bring the eight pocket folder to school each day. Graded papers, Weekly Progress Reports, and notes from the School Office will be sent home on Fridays in their Friday Folders.  Please sign and return to school the weekly progress report, and any work consisting of 79% or below.
