This is my fourth year as the computer teacher at St. Gerard Majella. I have a BA and MA in
Education, and have just completed an additional graduate certificate in Computer Education at
Fontbonne University.
I'm honored that I have been chosen for the Emerson "Excellence in Teaching" award for 2009. Only 1
out of 500 teachers in the St. Louis area can receive this award. A link to the article in the St. Louis
Review is in the "Wow! Links" page.
Also, I'm excited that one of my lessons was selected for publication by the state of Missouri's
"SuccessLink.org" September, 2009. I’m looking forward to this year at Majella!
It is our goal to prepare our students with 21st Century skills for lifelong learning. Computers are
the greatest tool for accessing knowledge and understanding the world. Through word processing
skills, students have a partner that helps them organize their thoughts, form paragraphs, and
communicate effectively. Confidence in computer use supports students in logical as well as creative
tasks.
It is important that computer class coordinates with the rest of the curriculum. Assignments are
designed to be meaningful. We teach word processing, keyboarding, database, spreadsheet,
presentation (Microsoft Office Suite), and art applications.
