Dear Parents,
We are keeping very busy in 1B. Lots of fun, creative work has been
going on this week. We have been busy practicing for our Christmas program,
and it’s looking great! We know you will enjoy it We made a stocking for St.
Nick and we can’t wait to come to school on Monday to see if he leaves us a
little gift!
During Advent, we discussed how we will be preparing our hearts for
Jesus’ coming. We talked about how there are many things we can do for others
and we made a promise to Jesus. Each day, we will write our promises on a
star and will place them on an Advent tree in our room. It makes us feel so
good to prepare ourselves as well as our homes. We also did some creative
writing to make our personal promise to Jesus. Our beautiful work is displayed
in our primary hall. Come take a look!
Next week, we will be working on blends (ch, tch, and wh.) in our
reading program. One activity that you can do at home to reinforce these
blends, would be to help them locate ch, tch, or wh words when you read with
them every night. Most of us are doing very well at sounding out unfamiliar
words and using picture or context clues to help us. Keep up the oral reading
EVERY DAY. It is so important to help build your child’s confidence and
promote good reading habits that will hopefully last a lifetime.
A LOOK AHEAD
No School on Tuesday, December 8, 2009
There is an all school Spanish mass on Friday, December 11, 2009. Join us
if you can!
First grade will be attending a play called “Twas the Night Before
Christmas” at the Sheldon Concert Hall on Thursday, December 17. There is a
permission slip with all of the information in your child’s blue go home
folder. If you would like to be a chaperone (we need 4 parents from 1B),
please e-mail me and let me know. I will notify all who volunteer, whether you
are needed or not. It promises to be a great show!
Have a nice weekend!
