Cartas cuartas K-2 (Quarter Letters)
CONCEPTS TO BE COVERED DURING THE SECOND QUARTER

KINDERGARTENERS will continue using color words and numbers through twenty,
while identifying various shapes. They will also learn short songs to help
them remember classroom objects and family members.
Cultural studies will include “Las posadas” and “El día de los Reyes.” In
addition to the Sign of the Cross, they will begin the “Glory Be to the
Father.”

FIRST GRADERS will continue working with numbers from 1 through 39, color
names, and classroom objects. They will also practice the Spanish alphabet,
and identify various foods.
In preparation for Christmas our focus will be on toys. As you carry out
family holiday traditions at home, we will discuss Christmas traditions in
Mexico and the message Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe gave to Juan Diego.

SECOND GRADERS will play “Simon Says” and dance the “Hokey-Pokey” to review
body parts. Then they will identify farm animals and express feelings with
the verb “tener.”
We will view a short film describing Our Lady of Guadalupe’s appearance to
Juan Diego, and discuss the differences between our celebration of the
Christmas season and that of Mexico and parts of South America.

JUST AS A REMINDER:
HOMEWORK
GRADES K-2 DO NOT have written homework in Spanish. They do, however, have
frequent quizzes to evaluate progress. I will list the most current
vocabulary on this web page under Curriculum K-2. There are also several
internet links that may be both informative and helpfulwith pronunciation.
From time to time you may want to give your child an opportunity to show off
his/her recently acquired vocabulary and, perhaps, even teach you a Spanish
word or two.

ASSESSMENT
Assessments will be based on your child's willingness to participate and
cooperate in class, his/her ability to respond appropriately to commands and
questions, and occasionalmultiple-choice quizzes.

May God bless you and yours throughout the up-coming holiday season.
¡Vaya con Dios!
Sincerely,
Señora Weckback
