Kindergarten Second Quarter Letter
Religion
The unit covered this quarter in Religion focuses on God's greatest gift to us, His Son Jesus. We will discuss the signs of Jesus' love for us and learn about celebrating that love with one another at Mass.
Math
We are continuing to explore with numbers. We will focus on writing our numbers in the correct form and number sense. We will also be working with measurement in the second quarter.
Reading
We will work on identifying characters, setting, and details from stories, as well as, using illustrations to make predictions. We are encouraging the children to use beginning sounds to help them decode words when reading. We also will learn about word families to increase reading accuracy.
Handwriting
We will continue to write using the Zaner-Bloser method. The children will learn how to form each capital and lowercase letter of the alphabet.
Creative Writing
The kindergarten children will continue to journal by drawing and labeling pictures through sound spelling. Our primary goal is for the students to begin to write beginning sounds they hear. We will support the children in their creative writing based on their readiness in small group centers.
Phonics
During the second quarter we will be matching letters with their sounds.
Science
We will focus on animals and the various habitats they live in.
Social Studies
In Social Studies, we will focus on our community- the place we live, work, and play. Students will explore the workers in a community and what their roles entail. We will also learn about the First Thanksgiving and make Pilgrim and Indian villages.
