What is AR?

AR stands for Accelerated Reader and it is a process that involves your
child reading at home and school as preparation to take a test. The test includes
5 questions about that book and your child will receive points that they use
to reach monthly goals. A 100 = 0.5 points, an 80 = 0.4 points and a 60 =
0.3 points unless it's a chapter book. Chapter books have 10 questions.
Scores are as follows- 100 = 1 point; 90 = 0.9; 80 = 0.8 and so on. There
are no points given for less than a 60. They receive prizes for meeting certain point goals; however, they must maintain an
average of 85% or higher to be considered. I list this informatin weekly in
their signed papers and I'm beginning an AR Log where they will keep up with
what they are testing on and their scores. Please make sure that your child
is reading at home and encourage good grades. They are more motivated when
they are praised by you than by me! Happy Reading!!
