Accelerated English II Accelerated English II prepares students for AP English while reviewing objectives necessary to pass the state test which is required for graduation. Essays- Students will write 12-14 essays this year, both informative and analytical. Reading- Students will read selections from the textbook as well as novels and plays. It is important that students read the material to be successful. Notes- I require notes on all readings and class lectures. I offer a variety of methods in note taking. Grading – point system Each activity is assigned a number of points; divide the number of points earned by the number possible to determine grade. For example, if an activity is worth 20 points and the student receives 15, his/her numerical grade is 75. Extra Credit- I offer extra credit once each nine weeks. It is possible to earn one point on the nine weeks average before exams. Supplies – 3 ring notebook; two pens (blue/black); notebook paper; 4 subject dividers Lesson Plans – I will post my lesson plans weekly on www.teacherweb.com/MS/clintonhighschool/MrsCunningham My email address is JCunningham@clinton.k12.ms.us I check my mail twice a day Monday-Friday. direct link from the CHS web page -- http//www.clintonpublicschools.com/chs/chs/webpages.htm Illness and tardiness – see handbook While students are sometimes ill and must miss class, it is vital for success to limit absences as much as possible. Although students can borrow notes from another student on information missed, it is not like being in the class. Students are also responsible for taking the initiative to make up work as soon as possible after an absence. Each English student is required to pay a $5.00 paperback fee. I am beginning my 29th year of teaching and my 22nd year of teaching accelerated classes. I speak from experience when I say that to be successful each student must read, take notes, and follow my directions.
