Coach Amy Sutton is entering her 4th season as the Lafayette High School's
head varsity coach.It was in 2006 that Coach Sutton accepted the position of
head girls’basketball coach at Lafayette High School to revive a program that
has had some history of success as well as seen remarkable athletes go on to
greater and broader successes. Since that time, Sutton has led to way to a
2008-2009 winning season of 16-14. The Lady Commodores finished 2nd overall
in Divisin 2-4A and 6th overall in the state.
Coach Sutton played Division I college ball at Alcorn State University where
she earned her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She furthered her
education from 2002 - 2004 in which she received her master's degree in
Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Coach Sutton has a mother, Brenda Sutton and father, James Sutton, Sr.who
both reside in Jackson,Ms. She also has an older brother, James Sutton, Jr.
who resides in Birmingham, Alabama.
Coach Sutton’s Motto: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens
me. - Philippians 4:13" With God as my ally, I walk boldly and confidently
into my destiny. I continue to strive to for excellence in all of my
endeavors. I can only achieve the goals of my career and life if I continue
to put my trust and faith in God. It is not me, but Christ through me that I
will fulfill my purpose in life.
I firmly believe in hard work and discipline. Hard work develops
appreciation for what one is doing. It is that belief that the program is
being built.
The foundation of discipline, dedication, and determination will reflect the
attitudes and hearts of every Lady Commodore that aspires become successful.
It is the mission of the Lady Commodore Basketball program to not only have
success on the basketball court, but also be successful citizens. Our
long term goals include winning our division championship as well as winning
a state championship. We can do anything we put our minds to; Together
