11th/10th graders: The PSAT will be given on October 17th at SPHS. To sign
up, see Mrs. Broome in the Guidance Office and pay Mrs. Hubbard the $20 fee.
The PSAT is the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test and is a pretest for the
SAT. It is similar to the PLAN test being given to tenth graders as a
pretest for the ACT. While the PLAN/ACT is an achievement type curriculum
based test on English, Math, Reading, and Science skills, the PSAT/SAT tests
students critical thinking skills in reading, writing, and math reasoning.
In the eleventh grade, students PSAT scores are used to select National Merit
Semi-Finalists for scholarships. South Panola usually gives the PLAN test to
all tenth graders free of charge while the PSAT is optional.
