How much homework should my third grade child do?

Generally, a third grade student should have 30 minutes of homework. Also,
your child should read AR nightly and study math facts. I do not assign
homework over the weekend but this is a great time to read and do special
projects.

What can I do to help my child learn math facts?

First, use items from home(Skittles, Cheerios, M & M's, etc.) to have your
child model the fact. Then have your child draw an array to model the fact.
Have your child make flash cards for facts that present difficulty and
practice, practice, practice. I tell my students to practice several times
each day--before breakfast, after school, and before bedtime. Also, use
different computer games to reinforce the facts.

How can I help my child in third grade?

Third grade students need help getting organized. Use a calendar to help
your child plan work to be accomplished. Note how many AR points should be
accomplished each week so that they meet their goal at the end of the
quarter. Plan what should be completed each week for the Saint project,
book report, and any other long-term assignment.
