Getting to Know Ms. Alessandro

Hello, my name is Chris Alessandro and I am excited to be your
child's teacher. This is my second year at Anderson teaching fifth grade
although this is not my first year teaching. I was teaching fourth grade at
Parsley Elementary School. Prior to Parsley, I've been teaching for 8 years.
I am originally from Albany, New York and I lived there for most my life. I
went to college in New York and received my Bachelors and Masters degree
from The College of Saint Rose.
I grew up with lots of cold winters and tons of snow! I am a huge
baseball fan. I loved living in New York because I was able to go to many
Yankee baseball games. I especially enjoyed watching the games when the
Yankees would beat the Red Sox!!! Albany was a wonderful place to live
however, I was ready for a change.
I moved to Wilmington two years ago to be closer to my family. My mom,
grandparents, aunts and uncles live near the Outer Banks so I am able to
drive up there and see them. I have an identical twin sister, who teaches
4th grade at Winter Park and moved down here with me. The two of us live
together with our two cats, Payton and Praveena. I also have a younger
brother who is a chef, but unfortunately he still lives in Albany.
Some activities I enjoy outside of school are reading, hiking, fishing,
running, working out and playing sports! My favorite hobby is traveling. I
have traveled to many countries. I explored New Zealand, backpacked
throughout Europe/United Kingdom, and camped in National Parks all over the
United States. These adventures helped me understand different cultures,
customs, and languages. The students love hearing my funny stories and
looking at my pictures. This helps them get excited and connect with the
places we learn about.
I've discovered that Wilmington is a great place to live. The people
are friendly, the weather is fantastic, and you can't beat all the beaches.
Now that you know a little more about myself, please don't hesitate to call
me at school or email me if you have any questions. I look forward to a
productive school year and getting to know all my
students and parents!

My Philosophy of Education

I believe it is essential to create a learning environment which respects
the diversity of students while promoting academic excellence. I will
provide students with positive educational experiences that will prepare
them for active participation in today's society. I will strive to
continually challenge students to develop to the best of thier abilities.
Both teachers and students alike must be enticed to pursue life-long goals
of personal and academic achievement!!!
