Testing InformationNCClas is the alternative assesment for all state tests. 9 weeks test assessment can be used with NCClas students and the data can go in the portfolio, however in the past they have not been mandatory. The ESL teacher, the classroom teacher, and the assistant principal decided wether or not it would be appropriate and act accordingly. With classscapes the teacher may be able to modify the test to meet a lower reading level etc.
ESL students - LEP and FEP- are all required to make growth and fulfill grade levels requirements. If a child is below level you must do a PEP or start PSM. Remember that PSM level 1 is simply a parent conference where concerns are expressed and the family and school decide how to help the child. If the child is making good progress then stay at level 1. A child can be level 1 all year. If they aren't making progress then move up to level 2 and 3. The point of PSM is to determine the best methods for helping a child succeed - not to entitle (it can lead to entitlement, but this isn't the goal) Many of our ESL students are in the PSM process. Very few will be entitled, but it helps the parents and the classroom teachers to see what we are doing with the child and what they should be doing. It really is about every person who works with a student taking responsibility for each aspect of instruction.
