Spelling

You child's new spelling words are in their F.I.S.H. folder. This week
they'll be responsible for cutting out their own words and putting them in
the envelope provided. Please refer to the directions for what each night's
spelling activity is.

MONDAY - word sort Sort words into categories. Ask your child to explain
to you why the words are sorted this way. Ask your child to sort them a
second time as fast as possible. Write down sort on piece of paper.

TUESDAY - No peeking sort Lay down a word from each category on a table as
a header, and then read the rest of the words aloud. Your child must
indicate which category the word goes in, without seeing it. Lay the word
upside down. Reveal all words when you finish. Repeat if your child makes
more than one error. Write down correct sort on sheet of paper.

WEDNESDAY - Do a word hunt Look for your spelling words OR other words with
the same spelling pattern in whatever book you are reading. Record any words
you find on a separate sheet of paper. Write WEDNESDAY so I know those are
your word hunt words.

THURSDAY - Do a writing sort to prepare for the Friday test. As you call out
the words in random order, your child should write them in categories on a
sheet of notebook paper. Call out any words your child has missed a second
or third time.
