Fourth grade students will be assessed in 5 writing features:)
Focus- maintained throughout the piece of writing
Organization- having a logical progression of events/thoughts that are complete
Support and Elaboration- must be supportive of the topic and have specific, developed details
Style- a skillful use of vocabulary and sentence fluency
The writing prompts fourth graders will be working on are Personal and Imaginative:)
Some examples may be:
Personal- tells a story of what happened:
-The best field trip
-A time someone go me in trouble
-The most exciting day of my life
Imaginative:
Imagine that...
-A genie pops out of your bookbag
-You get the power to fly
-While you are reading, a character jumps out of the book
What you can do at home to help:)
*Have your child keep a writing journal to write about their day or weekend.
*Write stories with your children about trips you have taken.
*Help them organize their thoughts with Thinking Maps.
*Read Narrative stories with your children.
*Encourage writing of any kind to help develop a love of writing.
